Motu 828 MKII USB Audio Interface
PLEASE READ THIS DESCRIPTION THOROUGHLY. Here I have for sale my Motu 828 MKII USB Audio Interface.
The unit is in full working order and in good cosmetic condition, having been rack mounted in my smoke free studio for 15 years. The unit comes with power supply, manuals and USB cable but unfortunately not the original packaging. The LED light for the display has never worked. I sent it away to an audio specialist a while ago and when it came back it was working, but quickly failed again. I believe that it's a problem with these units and you will need to use a light to read the display in dark conditions, or position the unit in an area that will make the display easy to read.
The trims for the 2 front xlr/trs inputs work in reverse i. E the knobs need to be turned counter clockwise for maximum input as opposed to clockwise. These units had very poor potentiometers, which resulted in intermittent crackling and noise. I had them replaced but the engineer could only replace them in reverse. This was a while back and they work with none of the noise issues that plagued them - it just takes a bit of getting used to. The main issue with these units is their performance under Windows 10.Ever since I upgraded my PC from Windows 7 to 10 the audio interface kept dropping out. I believed it to be a problem with Windows 10, and in some ways it might be, but ultimately it looks like the Motu driver is the biggest issue. The last update from Motu for this unit was in 2016, which is no doubt the reason why the unit continously drops audio under Windows 10. It could happen anywhere from 3 to 10 times in any given working session. I believe this unit may prove useful to someone running Windows 7, using it in standalone (which I've never done so I can't vouch for it), or who is prepared to restart the audio device when it drops out.
